New drivers beware!

New Drivers Act

Under the Road Traffic (New Drivers) Act, any driver who gets six or more penalty points within two years of passing your test will have their driving licence revoked. This includes any penalty points given before they passed their test. Penalty points are valid for three years. In order to get a full driving licence again, they will need to:

Buy a new provisional licence

Only drive when supervised

Put L plates on their car

Pass both theory and practical parts of the driving or riding test again to get a full licence.

Passing the test again does not remove the penalty points which remain on their new licence until their three year period expires. If the total of valid points reaches twelve, the driver risks disqualification again.

Penalty points remain on the licence for at least 4 years from either the date of conviction or the date of the offence.
